IBM's later hardware-era brand that followed iSeries before IBM standardized on the IBM i platform name.

Definition

System i was part of IBM's branding transition before IBM i became the standardized platform name. It still appears in older software documentation, support references, hardware discussions, and the vocabulary of long-time IBM midrange teams.

For content planning, System i matters because people still search with historical platform names even when the current software market is described as IBM i on IBM Power.
