Glossary Term

iSeries

IBM's 2000-era brand for the AS/400 family, positioned before the later System i and IBM i naming phases.

Definition

iSeries was the brand IBM used after the AS/400 era to present the same business-computing lineage inside a broader e-business strategy. For buyers and searchers today, the important point is that iSeries, AS/400, System i, and IBM i often describe the same platform family across different time periods rather than completely different systems.

That naming overlap still affects software discovery, because vendor pages, job titles, and internal company language often use the older names interchangeably.

Example

A team may say its warehouse application still runs on an iSeries even though the current technical platform name they should research software under is IBM i.
