Glossary Term

Disaster Recovery

The people, process, site, and technology plan that restores operations after a serious outage or business disruption.

Definition

Disaster recovery is broader than backup or replication alone. It includes recovery priorities, secondary site readiness, testing discipline, communication processes, and the actual sequence used to bring critical services back.

IBM i buyers evaluating DR software should think about the entire recovery plan, not just a single product category.

Example

A formal DR plan may define how quickly an IBM i ERP system, its network dependencies, and related user access must be restored after a site event.
