On-platform translation keeps the exchange close to the dispatch data that generates it, which shortens the distance between a status event and a 214 going out. Off-platform or managed translation moves the operational burden to a provider and adds a hop. Neither is automatically right. What sinks these projects is nobody owning partner change requests, so a broker updates a spec, tenders stop arriving, and no alert fires until a customer calls to ask where their freight went.
